Mist Eliminator/Demister

A demister is also called a mist eliminator, a wire mesh separator, a wire blanket, etc. It has a function to separate and eliminate mist or dust from vapour, it is made of a variety of materials according to the conditions of use, so it can be used semi-permanently. The structure is so simple that it is easy to install and repair.

Wire Mesh Type

The structure is made in the form of the mat. where thick wire is woven into crimped wire mesh, and this woven wire mesh is piled up in several layers. The finished product creates the complex inertia impaction structure, and a negligible amount of pressure loss occurs because free volume is 98% or so. Small particles of mist that are scattered when gas on the liquid surface is separated are entrained in the gas, and pass through the demister. Before passing, those particles grow in size on the pad surface on the basis of

  •  the inertia impaction theory;
  • the fact that they are directly removed when contacting over 1/3 of the wire diameter;
  • the Brownian principle, after that, the particles including foreign substances fall free due to their own weight to pass through the demister, and then the gas becomes pure, clean, and dry vapour free from impurities.

Plate Type

A plate type mist eliminator is also called a chevron mist eliminator, a vane type mist eliminator, etc, it collects liquid droplets entrained in the gas by means of inertia impaction.

No plugging occurs when it separates and eliminates plenty of dust or viscous mist from the liquid droplets, so excellent collection efficiency is achieved even at comparably high flow rates. Considering the eliminator structure, resistance loss is low, and it can be used with low pressure
loss even at high gas flow rates. Even in the case of large-capacity gas processing, it can be installed at small surfaces and low costs. According to the conditions of gas, it can be made of proper heat-resisting and corrosion-resisting materials, including FRP, PP, and SUS.
